North Black Sea resorts Travel Information

The North Black Sea Resorts of Bulgaria have been popular holiday destinations for over a century, complete with a rich and interesting political history. The area took off as a mega-resort for all in the 1960s but was also famed for being a place to relax for Communist party officials.
If you want culture, head to Varna, a working city and Bulgaria’s main port. The town provides the ideal base to explore the coastline with its exotic Mediterranean feel. Here you will find tree-lined boulevards combined with winding streets containing recommended cafes and restaurants. The towering Cathedral of the Dormition of Mary opened in 1886 and is complete with copper domes and a 38 metre high belfry.
To the north of Varna lies Kavarna, a Black Sea coastal town and seaside resort located in the Dobruja region of northeastern Bulgaria. The town offers a charming yacht port, a spacious beach and a resort complex, perfect for catching sun rays. In the town centre are two small yet enchanting churches, The Church of St George, built in 1836 and the Dormition of the Theotokos Church in 1860. Be careful to spot the twelve spring fountains situated along the valley to the port, a unique Kavarna feature.
